2013-2014 REVISED SCHOOL CALENDAR
District and School Grade Report under the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act
Early in the 2012-2013 school year, the Margate School Safety Team (a group of administrators and staff from both Ross and Tighe) completed a self-assessment of the district’s initiatives and efforts in order to be in compliance with the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, which went into effect the previous year.

By clicking the link, you can see the raw scores of the data and the sum of the ratings (total score) for all eight core elements, which the district submitted for both schools last spring. The Department of Education has issued the following regarding these grades: "The grade (64 of 75) is not to be represented by a letter grade. It is represented by the sum of the ratings for all of eight core elements."Beginning with the September 2011-2012 school year, our district has conscientiously implemented the requirements found in the Anti Bullying Bill of Rights Act by :
1) We designated a district Anti-Bullying Coordinator (ABC) and two (for each school) Anti-Bullying Specialists (ABS) from current staff in accordance with the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act. Each school’s ABS follows up and investigates any complaint made involving potential Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB). Completed investigations are submitted within the State’s timelines to the ABC, who then forwards to the Superintendent of Schools.
2) Both the ABC and the two building specialists (ABS) have attended several trainings related to their responsibilities since the inception of the HIB legislation.
3) District staff has received instruction/training throughout the time the legislation has been in effect.
Annual parent meetings have been held to explain the meaning and implementation of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act.
4) The district has broadened its training on the HIB Policy to include assemblies and classroom instruction for students with age-appropriate information on what constitutes bullying.

Friendly Reminders

Absences and Parent Portal

Please help us properly record your child’s absences by following these guidelines:

Remember to send your child back to school with a written note explaining the reason for the absence.
The note should be given to your child’s teacher who will forward it to the main office, or you can send it directly to Teresa Osborne, our school secretary.  A parent note is sufficient to excuse a child due to illness or injury for one or two consecutive school days; three or more days require a note from the treating physician. Religious holidays, court appearances, and death in the family are also excused when explained by the parent in a written note to school.  VACATIONS ARE NOT EXCUSED ABSENCES.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child's individual case, please contact our attendance officer, Mr. Schiff, directly at 822-2080 (ext. 300) or jschiff@margateschools.org.

Additionally, please remember to check the Parent Portal at http://www.mygradeportal.com/ using the username and password you received earlier this fall. You can view your child’s records at any time using the portal.  If you have any difficulties logging into the site, let us know and we will resolve the problem as soon as possible.
